The War Memorial of Korea and 도시락

One of the things I did during my first weekend in Korea was visit the War Memorial of Korea. My host family and I made 김밥 (kimbap) together to eat after touring the memorial. Kimbap is vegetables (usually cucumber, carrot, and pickled radish) and protein (tuna, egg, fish cake, ham, etc) wrapped in rice (밥) and 김 (seaweed). We also made 유부초밥 (yubu chobap) which is fried bean curd filled with rice. Both foods are extremely delicious!! I had such a great time making kimbap and yubu chobap for our 도시락 (bento lunchbox)! Making kimbap together was one of my dreams, so it was really fun for me!!! We took the bus together to the memorial. I learned so much from the memorial. It was definitely a fun day, and it was interesting to see so much of Korea's past in one place. However, it was also somewhat somber. I didn't take video of it, but the Dog Tag Tear Drop sculpture  made of 1,300 dog tags of fallen soldiers really put me into a solemn mood for a while. I would definitely recommend going to the war memorial though! You will learn so much about the history of Korea. The great thing is, they have everything translated into English, so even if you don't know much Korean, you can learn a lot.
